India's first illustrative Meet The Artist series featuring 23 artists!

Art is a powerful source of transformation, inspiration, encouragement and for critiquing our world. Yet being an artist in India is not seen as a good choice. We may know a couple of names of popular artists but there are many we do not hear about. Several we do not know about. And too many whose talent remains undiscovered.  We at Ruas, believe there is a huge scope for creative spiritis to prosper in India. Whether they are artists or traditional artisans carrying on with their historic craft forms, we need to give them the platform, space and opportunity they...

Laxmi Ben - A Natural Leader

Laxmi Ben - A Natural Leader

I first met Laxmi Ben in 2014. At that time, she was a student of Somaiya Kala Vidyalaya - a college started by Judy Frater to give traditional artisans a platform to learn business skills and become successful entrepreneurs. Fast forward to now, she is a faculty at the school and has created several of our collections along with being a part of several exhibitions herself. But when we escape to the outdoors, we take a step back and admire the beauty around us. The blessings we have been given and the trips we still haven't taken. We recently took a road trip from Cochin to Kanyakumari! But the place that left a lasting impression was Munnar.  image source: http://traveltriangle.com/blog/munnar-tourist-places/ The day we reached, we were welcomed by clouds descending from the sky to...

Artist of the Month- Christabel Menezes

Artist of the Month- Christabel Menezes

Not many people in this world are blessed with as many talents as Christabel. She is a Singer, Songwriter, Hula-Hooper, Painter and a DIY enthusiast.  A free-spirit, she has no permanent home and believes that being a gypsy is a calling where you cannot sit still. What struck me the most about her, is that she is a go-getter. The day we met, Christabel was repainting her guitar and needed to find some sandpaper and acetone. She found a hardware store nearby the cafe we met in. But the shop didn't have acetone, which she needed to fix an error....
